Charity boost provides thrill of the ski slopes

Charity minded company, Total Refrigeration, is digging deep and donating £5,000 to help disadvantaged young people experience a holiday in the snow.

The Unilever-owned company’s donation to Snow Camp has helped send nearly 150 young people to Val Thoren, France.  The cash will also contribute to another 300 youngsters enjoying the charity’s summer camps.

Hyde-based Total Refrigeration Managing Director Dave Parkes, a snowboarder himself, says: “Experiencing skiing and snowboarding brings fantastic benefits for everyone. Snow sports, once the preserve of the middle class is now available to disadvantaged youngsters thanks to Snow-Camp.

“We take our charity work very seriously at Total Refrigeration as we believe businesses have a duty to share their success.  We thought Snow-Camp was a suitable charity as we are the UK’s leading distributor of branded freezers and many of our staff love snow sports,” says Dave Parkes.

As well as combining the thrill of learning to ski and snowboard, Snow-Camp enables young people to develop new skills, make positive decisions for their lives and grow in confidence and self esteem. The youngsters then realise that what they have learnt on the slopes - determination, perseverance, teamwork, overcoming fear and challenges – is essential for achieving their goals back at home. The course enables young people to reflect on their experiences of life to date and to focus their sights on what they can achieve in the future – regardless of their potentially difficult home situation.

Snow-Camp director, Dan Charlish, says:  “It’s fantastic to have the support of Total Refrigeration, they have enabled Snow-Camp to expand its work with disadvantaged young people and made a real difference to our programmes. We hope the partnership can go from strength to strength - with our focus on snow-sports a partnership with a leading refrigeration company seems meant to be!
