Mayor praises company’s charity work
A Hyde company has been praised by the Mayor of Tameside for its charity work in the community as the credit crunch bites harder.
Civic Mayor of Tameside, Councillor Jack Davis and the Mayoress, Mrs Carole Davis, were visiting Total Refrigeration’s depot to open its new extended warehouse at East Tame Business Park, Talbot Road.
The Mayor said: “Your company has not only invested in the borough but has also shown great corporate social responsibility. We welcome this additional support for charities and the local community.
“It has been a pleasure to celebrate with you, your company’s success and the extension of the warehouse and I offer my best wishes for continued success and prosperity,” said the Mayor as he cut the ribbon to open Total Refrigeration’s warehouse extension.
Total Refrigeration’s expansion will take the warehouse facility from 24,000 square feet to 33,000 square feet, making it one of the largest warehouses for the distribution of branded freezers. The company is owned by Unilever and employs 32 people in Hyde. The expansion will secure jobs and reduce storage costs for Total Refrigeration.
The Mayor was also interested to hear about Total Refrigeration’s charity work. The company recently donated £4,000 to Willow Wood Hospice, Ashton-under-Lyne, and has several more charity initiatives planned for this year.
During the visit, the Mayor, who was welcomed by Total Refrigeration Managing Director, Dave Parkes, learned about the company’s commitment to the environment. The company is heavily involved with the Woodland Trust’s “plant a tree” initiative and has financed the planting of over 7,800 trees for the trust. Total Refrigeration plants a tree for every refrigeration unit it recycles and is proud to recycle 97% of each unit it recycles.
“We’re very committed to the preserving our environment and ensuring that our carbon footprint is minimised. Our innovations not only benefit the customer, but also the environment,” said Mr Parkes. He added that Total Refrigeration has entered the Northwest Business Environment Awards 2009.
The visit ended with Evie Grimshaw, three, sharing her home-made snowmen cakes with the mayoral party.
Evie’s father, Stuart Grimshaw, Marketing Manager at Total Refrigeration, said: “Evie certainly took her duties very seriously and happily baked her special biscuits for the Mayoral party. She’s always been a party girl so meeting the Mayor and Mayoress was a thrill for her.”
