Baby Robins nest found in old freezer

Old freezers help new life at Total Refrigeration
It may not have been anywhere near Christmas but in the early part of August, a heart-warming story that would have been perfect for the local papers had we been in the middle of December came to light at our Hyde headquarters.
Normally, the old disused freezers which are temporarily stored in our yard before being safely disposed of or recycled, are largely ignored by our staff until they are cleared away. However, as sales manager, Stuart Grimshaw, explains, one day there was no way we could dispose of them as we normally do. He explains: “I’m pretty sure that when David Attenborough talks about natural habitats for domestic birds, disused freezers wouldn’t be high on his list of ideal environments.
“However, when a family of Robins were found nesting deep within a number of old freezers we were unable to just carry on as usual and had to take care of them instead.
“Over the course of a couple of weeks, Gary Leigh looked after them and made sure they were OK every day before once they were strong enough, they finally flew the nest.”
While he may not exactly be prime Doctor Dolittle material, Gary did a tremendous job and a few members of staff were a little sorry to see our temporary feathered squatters leave. Either way, maybe we have a great alternative for a picture on our corporate Christmas cards this year?
